For the fourth consecutive year, the Cheshire Tennis EDI (Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion) team packed up their rackets, gathered some of our inclusive coaches, and headed to Walton Hall Gardens in Warrington for the annual Disability Awareness Day.
Stationed in the bustling Sports Zone, the mission was simple: to showcase the power of adaptive tennis and prove that this sport truly is for everyone.
Despite the summer heat, the energy there was incredible. We welcomed well over a hundred players who stepped onto the court, picked up a racket, and joined in the fun.
It wasn’t just about hitting tennis balls. We spent the day connecting and chatting with families, carers, and future players. We welcomed new members who were thrilled to learn about our local inclusive sessions, and demonstrated just how adaptable, accessible and fun tennis can be.
An event like this takes a village, and we are incredibly grateful to the team who worked hard to make the day such a resounding success. Special thanks goes to:
Coaches: Callum Atkinson (Hoole TC), John Carrigan (Culcheth TC), and Mike Herd (Helsby TC).
Volunteers: Anu Trehan, Junko Tauchi, and our fantastic Tennis Leader, Louis.
Tennis Equipment Partners: A huge shoutout to Sue at LUSU Sports for generously lending us some of their brilliant specialized equipment.
The number of venues across Cheshire offering inclusive tennis activities is growing all the time. There has never been a better time to get on court! Whether you are a player looking to join a session or a local venue wanting to make your courts more accessible, we want to hear from you!
Check out what’s on offer near you on our Diversity & Inclusion Page.
As always, if you have any questions, drop a line to our EDI Lead, Jayne Huxley-Grantham, at jayne@cheshiretennis.org.uk.
Let’s keep growing the game, together!
