Cheshire 7U Team Challenge at Birchwood Tennis Centre

Sunday 4th October saw Birchwood Tennis Centre host the Cheshire 7U Team Challenge, bringing together 11 teams from eight clubs for an exciting day of junior team tennis.

Teams from across Cheshire took part, with Poynton, Birchwood, Hoole, Lymm, Wirral, Alderley Edge, Bramhall Lane and Widnes all represented. Alderley Edge, Bramhall Lane and Widnes each entered two teams, creating a fantastic atmosphere and plenty of competitive tennis throughout the day.

Each team consisted of four or five players, with every player getting the opportunity to play both a singles and a doubles match against the opposing team. This format gave the young players valuable experience of competing individually while also working together and supporting their teammates.

The 11 teams were split across three boxes for the opening stage of the competition, with teams battling for a place in the knockout stages. The top-performing teams then progressed to the semi-finals.

The first semi-final saw Bramhall Lane A take on Birchwood in an extremely close and hard-fought encounter. Both teams competed brilliantly, but it was Bramhall Lane A who eventually secured their place in the final.

The second semi-final was equally competitive, with Widnes overcoming Lymm after another exciting contest to book their place in the final.

This set up a final between Widnes and Bramhall Lane A. With the title at stake, both teams produced some excellent tennis, with the young players showing great determination and team spirit. In the end, Widnes came out on top, winning the final 4–2 to be crowned Cheshire 7U Team Challenge champions.

The event was a fantastic opportunity for the players to experience competitive team tennis, meet players from other clubs and develop both their individual and doubles games. Just as importantly, the day showcased the enthusiasm, sportsmanship and team spirit of the next generation of Cheshire tennis players.

A huge thank you to Birchwood Tennis Centre for hosting the event and providing a fantastic venue for the young players to compete. We would also like to thank all eight clubs - Poynton, Birchwood, Hoole, Lymm, Wirral, Alderley Edge, Bramhall Lane and Widnes - for entering the event and helping to make it such a successful and enjoyable day of team tennis.

A special thank you also goes to referee Mike Atherfold for officiating throughout the day and helping ensure the event ran smoothly.

Congratulations to Widnes on winning the Cheshire 7U Team Challenge and well done to all 11 teams and every player who competed and represented their clubs so brilliantly.

It was a fantastic day of junior tennis and a great showcase for the future of tennis across Cheshire.
