The Women's Champions League event 2024 took place at Bidston Tennis Centre on Saturday 12th October. It was disappointing that last year's winners Hale LTC dropped out at the last minute leaving just 4 clubs taking part, Cuddington & Sandiway, Lymm, Widnes and Wrexham. All teams had to play against each other with the two teams that finished top of the group playing in the final.
Widnes had a very strong team containing two Cheshire county team players and they reached the final with convincing wins against all three clubs. The competition between the other 3 teams as to who else reached the final could not have been any closer. After the third and final round of matches Cuddington & Sandiway, Lymm and Wrexham all finished on the same number of points. Countback on sets won & lost meant Cuddington & Sandiway finished in 4th place, but Lymm and Wrexham were tied on the same number of sets, so a tie break shoot out was needed to separate the teams with one player from each pair teaming up. This was a proverbial nail biter with match points being saved by Wrexham before Lymm prevailed 11 - 9. The final was deservedly won by Widnes but congratulations should go to the players of all 4 teams who competed hard throughout the day and ensured all matches were played in the right spirit.
