10U Boys Report
Coaches: Max Enston and Daniel Longshaw
Team: Nithin Sailesh, George Christodoulou, Remi Annable, Michael Zheng, and Oliver Cross
The boys were placed in a group alongside Hereford & Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Derbyshire, and North Wales. The team made a fast start against Hereford & Worcestershire, leading 3–1 after the singles matches. The boys won the number one doubles but narrowly lost at number two, securing a 4–2 victory overall.
The boys quickly moved on to face Gloucestershire and once again set the tone brilliantly. After the singles, Cheshire led 4–0 with the doubles still to play. The team lost at number one doubles but won at number two, completing an impressive 5–1 victory.
On day two, the boys faced North Wales and Derbyshire. Across both matches, the team lost only one match in total. Cheshire defeated Derbyshire 5–1 before producing a dominant 6–0 win over North Wales to secure top spot in the group and qualification for the Northern National Finals.
10U Girls Report
Coaches: Lauren Banks and Amanda Twigg
Team: Eleanor Charters, Carmelita Oyang Awah, Isla Mayers, Rose Mattingly, and Niamh Parker
The girls showed a fantastic team bond throughout the weekend, which played a huge part in their success. Cheshire were drawn in a group with Yorkshire, Hereford & Worcestershire, Derbyshire, and North Wales.
On the opening day, the girls first faced Hereford & Worcestershire. Cheshire started strongly, winning all four singles matches. Although they dropped one doubles match, victory in the other doubles secured an excellent 5–1 win.
The girls then went straight back on court to face Yorkshire. Cheshire dominated the singles, winning three of the four matches, before going on to win both doubles ties and complete another convincing 5–1 victory.
On day two, Cheshire faced Derbyshire and North Wales. The girls were outstanding throughout the day, recording back-to-back 6–0 wins to top the group and qualify for the next stage of the competition.
“Another fantastic weekend for the younger teams, with both teams showing their qualities throughout the competition to qualify for the National Finals. Well done to all the players and coaches for such professional performances.” - Simon Thornewill, Cheshire County Lead
We wish both teams the best of luck for the Finals on 6th and 7th June. The Boys will travel to Boston and the Girls will be on home soil in Bidston!
