Both 9U Boys & Girls competed in the their qualifying event at Wrexham on Sunday 9th March, where they we’re competing against Derbyshire, Isle of Man, and North Wales. The girls we’re up first on Sunday morning where the team got of to a flying start by beating Derbyshire 6-0, it’s always important to get off to a good start at County Cup events. Next up the girls beat Isle of Man 6-0 which put them in a great position to win the group, the last match was a victory against North Wales where they won 5-1 with that last victory the girls won the group and have qualified for the national finals at the end of March in Nottingham. The girls were led brilliantly by Lauren Banks and Amanda Twigg.

The boys kicked off in the afternoon, being lead by Tony Green and Daniel Longshaw. The boys followed the same order as the girls by taking on Derbyshire and winning 6-0, next up was Isle of Man who we beat with the same score of 6-0. For the boys to qualify they needed to beat North Wales, after the singles the team were 3-1 up with it all to play in the doubles. The boys played brilliantly in the doubles to win both matches which give us a 5-1 victory and a spot in the national finals at the end of March.

Junior County Performance Co-ordinator Simon Thornewill said, “I am feel proud of both teams to qualify for national  finals, this doesn’t happen without the guidance of the captains and the coaches of these players. The team spirit in these teams has been brilliant and hopefully continues into the finals. Well done players, parents and captains.”
