Men's County Cup Team Secure Promotion with Outstanding Week

Our Men's County Cup team produced a superb performance throughout the week to secure promotion after winning four of their five matches in a highly competitive group.

Competing at the Northern venue from 20–24 July, the squad showed exceptional resilience, teamwork and determination, finishing as group champions after a memorable week of tennis.

A Perfect Start

The campaign began with an impressive 7–2 victory over an experienced Lincolnshire side. Strong performances throughout the team, including an excellent final round that saw all three rubbers won, provided the perfect start and gave the squad plenty of confidence heading into the remainder of the competition.

That momentum continued in the second match against one of the pre-tournament favourites, Somerset. Despite several closely contested encounters, the team rose to the occasion once again, recording a deserved 6–3 victory. A number of championship tie-breaks went our way, demonstrating the players' composure under pressure.

Dominant Display on Clay

Day three saw the team face Northumberland on clay courts, a surface that was unfamiliar to several members of the squad. Any concerns quickly disappeared as the players produced arguably their finest performance of the week.

The team completed a remarkable 9–0 victory, dropping just two sets across all nine rubbers. It was a dominant display that highlighted the depth and quality throughout the squad while keeping promotion firmly within reach.

Narrow Heartbreak

The fourth match against North Wales proved to be the closest contest of the week.

With promotion rivals standing in their way and the team adapting following the departure of Alfie King after the opening three days, every rubber carried added significance. After battling back from an early deficit to level the match at 3–3, the final round produced some outstanding tennis.

The contest came down to the final rubber, where Matthew Chadwick and Andy Brisdon earned a match point in the deciding championship tie-break. Unfortunately, North Wales saved the opportunity before edging the match 5–4.

Although the result was disappointing, the commitment, fight and resilience shown by every player reflected the outstanding team spirit that had developed throughout the week.

Promotion Secured

Knowing victory over Devon would guarantee both promotion and the group title, the team entered the final day focused solely on its own performance.

After a slow start, the players responded superbly to take a 2–1 lead before producing an outstanding second round, winning all three rubbers to mathematically secure promotion.

With the result safely achieved, Danny Urey and Rafa Kiss were both introduced for the final round, making valuable contributions as the team completed a convincing 7–2 victory to round off an unforgettable week.

A Fantastic Team Effort

Winning four of five matches and finishing as group champions was a tremendous achievement for the squad. Every player contributed throughout the week, whether on court or supporting teammates from the sidelines, creating a positive team environment that was evident from the opening day through to the final match.

The players adapted to different opponents, surfaces and challenging situations while consistently demonstrating excellent teamwork, determination and sportsmanship.
