Cheshire Tennis is delighted to announce the following appointments and we look forward to working with these new volunteers.
Nigel Birkett to be Finance Director for Cheshire Tennis
Cheshire Tennis is pleased to announce the appointment of Nigel Birkett to the position of Finance Director/Treasurer. Nigel has had a distinguished career in finance, including being a partner at Deloitte. Nigel is a trustee at Team Mcr, a charity supporting extra-curricular sport to schools in Manchester.
Nigel is a very successful tennis player. He was nationally ranked as a junior, had tennis scholarship at the University of Oklahoma playing in the NCAA Division 1, played for Cheshire in the County Cup at 35+, has won 3 ITF Masters GB National Singles titles, and has represented Great Britain in the World Team Championships at 45+ and 50+ age groups.
Nigel will be taking over as Finance Director from Roger Hughes, who will officially stand down at the Cheshire Tennis AGM in April this year. We would like to thank Roger for his sterling service to Cheshire Tennis as Treasurer, LTA Councillor and in many other capacities. Nigel will be co-opted onto the Cheshire Tennis Board and he will be formally confirmed at the AGM.
Karen Jones to be a Director of Cheshire Tennis
Cheshire Tennis is pleased to announce the appointment of Karen Jones to join the Board of Cheshire Tennis. Karen will lead a project to gain charitable status for Cheshire Tennis. She will also work closely with the Chair of Tennis to implement the Cheshire Tennis strategic plan drawing on her experience of working as a Chief Operating Officer in within the Small and Medium Enterprise sector. She has extensive experience of being a Trustee/Director of not-for-profit organisations including WeMindTheGap, which provides life-changing opportunities for young people who deserve better life chances.
Karen is a member of Knutsford Tennis Club and plays for Cheshire Tennis Senior Teams.
Karen will be co-opted onto the Cheshire Tennis Board and she will be formally confirmed at the AGM.
Siu Yau to be County Safeguarding Officer
Cheshire Tennis is pleased to announce the appointment of Siu Yau to be the County Safeguarding Officer. Siu is the Welfare Officer at Hoole Tennis Club and she has been involved in running the County Junior Tournament at Hoole.
Siu takes over from Mark Bundy. We would like to thank Mark for his work in this important position for Cheshire Tennis.
