Report by Jayne Huxley-Grantham, EDI Lead for Cheshire Tennis.
We were thrilled to be part of this year’s Disability Awareness Day and what a day it was! With over 350 people stopping by to hit, chat, and learn more about inclusive tennis, the energy and enthusiasm around the courts was truly inspiring.
Throughout the day, we welcomed new faces, reconnected with returning players, and heard some heartwarming stories from families whose children have benefitted from our inclusive tennis sessions over the past few years. It was especially moving to hear from parents of young players with autism and ADHD, sharing the positive impact tennis has had on their children’s confidence, focus and wellbeing.
We’re also excited to have made new connections in both wheelchair and visually impaired (VI) tennis, helping us grow our inclusive offer across Cheshire in the months ahead.
A huge thank you goes out to Lusu Sports, our brilliant Lusu-trained coaches Callum Atkinson and Carol Needham, and the dedicated volunteers from Lymm who made the day such a success. This was a real team effort and a major win for disability tennis in Cheshire.
We’re proud of the progress being made, and even more excited about what’s to come.
