Ladies Enjoy a Wonderful Day at Wimbledon

Last year, our Ladies County Cup Team were delighted to be asked to play at the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC). Following a standout performance in 2025, the Cheshire Ladies were invited onto the grounds of Wimbledon for a once-in-a-lifetime competitive experience. From the legendary dressing rooms to the pristine Indoor Tennis Centre, here is Captain Kim Schmider’s account of an unforgettable day at the AELTC:

"Following our excellent 3rd-place finish in County Week 2025, Cheshire Ladies were honoured to receive an invitation to the AELTC County Cup triangular. The event was a 2-pair doubles event, played alongside an equivalent men’s triangular. The team selected to represent the county-Vicky Basnett, Phoebe Mitchell, Rhona Cook, and Kim Schmider-enjoyed an absolute "bucket list" experience that lived up to every bit of the Wimbledon prestige.

The day started with the surreal opportunity to prepare in the professional Members’ Dressing Rooms, walking the same halls as the game’s greatest legends. Before the matches kicked off, we gathered on the Clubhouse landing for tea, coffee, and pastries, enjoying the incredible view from the balcony overlooking the iconic, pristine grass courts. Having two supporters there to share in the atmosphere made the occasion feel even more special as we headed to the Indoor Tennis Centre to compete in our "Wimbledon whites".

​While the results on the court didn’t go our way- falling to both a sharp Kent side and a formidable AELTC team in straight sets- the quality of the facilities and the spirit of the competition made every game a joy to play. The day concluded on a high note as we traded our tennis whites for formal attire for a truly sophisticated evening. We were treated to a champagne reception followed by a beautiful dinner and drinks in the Members' Dining Room, providing the perfect finish to a world-class day. We would like to extend a huge thank you to the AELTC for the prestigious invitation and to Cheshire Tennis for their continued support in making these opportunities possible."
