The 3rd Annual 7U Team Challenge took place on Sunday 5th October at Birchwood Tennis Centre, with 11 enthusiastic teams from across the county coming together for a day full of competitive spirit, teamwork, and outstanding tennis.

Each team, made up of 4 players, competed in both singles and doubles matches. The teams were divided into groups – either boxes of 3 or 4 – with the top two teams from each progressing to the knockout stages. The group stages were a fantastic display of young talent, and it was wonderful to see the players competing with such energy and big smiles throughout the day.

Once into the knockout rounds, the level of competition stepped up even further. The semi-finalists were Birchwood A, Birkenhead, Bramhall Lane A, and Poynton. Both semi-finals were tightly contested. Birkenhead edged past Poynton 4-2, while Birchwood A advanced to the final after a dramatic 3-3 tie with Bramhall Lane A, progressing on points won and lost.

The final between Birchwood A and Birkenhead was a thrilling encounter, with many matches decided by just a single point. Ultimately, Birchwood A emerged victorious, claiming the title in front of their home crowd. In the 3rd/4th playoff, Bramhall Lane A secured a 4-2 win over Poynton to take the bronze position.

A special mention goes to the teams and players taking part in their very first competition – it was inspiring to see their determination and sportsmanship, and they left with heads held high.

Huge thanks to Mike Atherfold (Poynton) for his efforts in the lead-up to the event and for refereeing on the day, ensuring smooth running throughout.

Congratulations to all players, captains, and parents who contributed to a brilliant day of tennis. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!
