We’re excited to announce that entries are now open for the upcoming Cheshire Mixed Doubles Walking Tennis Event, which will take place on Monday 29th September from 10am–2pm at Birchwood Leisure & Tennis Complex, Warrington.

Our Cheshire Men’s 35+ team battled across the weekend to secure a well-earned 3rd place finish in Division 2B at the 35+ County Cup. Eastbourne delivered lovely weather and plenty of spectators were treated to some brilliant tennis throughout.

Cheshire is recognised as a supportive county for encouraging our competitors to enter LTA disability tournaments – both local and regional. The calendar is quite full and offers a wide variety of opportunities for everyone. The competitions are warm and friendly affairs for both competitors and family to be a part of.

We were thrilled to be part of this year’s Disability Awareness Day and what a day it was! With over 350 people stopping by to hit, chat, and learn more about inclusive tennis, the energy and enthusiasm around the courts was truly inspiring. YPWAs play an important role in promoting safeguarding and welfare by raising awareness, gathering feedback from fellow players, and acting as a link between young people and venue committees.

Cheshire Tennis is proud to support the LTA’s Young Person’s Welfare Ambassador (YPWA) programme, an exciting initiative that gives young people aged 14–24 the chance to make a real impact at their local venue. Entries open on 30th July for the 2025 Cheshire County Championships, taking place from 14 to 21 September at Hoole LTC, School Lane, Chester, CH2 4EF.. As one of the most anticipated events in the Cheshire tennis calendar, this is your chance to get on court and compete against players from across the county. The County Championships will feature Men’s and Women’s Singles and Doubles, with all events open for entry from 30th July. We’d love to see you there!

Whether you’re competing for the first time or a returning player, this is your chance to test your skills, enjoy a great competitive atmosphere and enjoy a fantastic week of tennis.

The Ladies’ Cheshire Shield was hotly contested between six teams (after a last-minute withdrawal). Ably refereed by Georgina Jackson, the round-robin format consisted of one full set (tiebreak at 6–6), with every club playing the other five and each 1st and 2nd couple playing their respective opponents.

Cheshire’s Young Person of the Year, Barnaby Nicholson from Lymm Tennis Club, was recently recognised at the Lexus Ilkley Trophy, where he received his Excellence Award in a special presentation. May 9-11th and was refereed by Dave Paterson.

In the LTA National Awards, as well as having three National Finalists, Cheshire received 5 Excellence Awards - the most of any county. Cheshire Tennis was delighted to hear about Chester LTC’s recent Open Day that basked in glorious sunshine! The club had applied for funds from the Participation & Inclusion Fund (PIG Fund) to contribute to the costs of flyers, posters and banners to advertise the day to attract new members.

It was a weekend to remember for our Cheshire 11U Boys and Girls teams as they competed in the County Cup Play-Offs, battling it out for a place in the national finals. The 10U County Cup North Area Finals in Wirral showcased the incredible determination, and team spirit of our Cheshire boys. Battling through some tough fixtures over the weekend, they secured a fantastic third place, making everyone proud.

We’re gearing up for an exciting weekend as our 10U boys take on the challenge of the Boys’ North Area Finals.
